Lizard® Custom ProbesWe have found there is an ever increasing demand for custom probes which are designed and tailored to a specific job, and we can meet most needs.
Rotary hole probe. This probe was designed for the rail industry to scan for radial or tangential cracks on the surface area around 12mm nominal holes. The holes could only be accessed from one side with limited access, requiring a compact automated probe assembly, as it would be difficult and unreliable to try and manually scan the probe under these conditions. The probe has a remote stepper motor connected via a flexible drive lead. The head of the probe is fitted with three expanding fingers that centralize and hold the probe in place. This minimizes the size of the probe yet allows the scanning to be automated, allowing the system to be used by a single operator who can concentrate on the scan. The motor is directly controlled by the host unit to provide a synchronized scan making the system fully automated. Degree markers on the scan indicate the position of any defects.
Pipe inspection probe. This probe was developed for scanning pipe welds after construction. This probe is integrated into a mandrel system (the picture shows a test rig and not the mandrel). The probe was connected from a local transceiver via a 100m data lead to the host unit. A custom system was provided to accommodate the fast scan times required, in combination with a multi-element sensor. Part of the requirement was that the probe had to withstand high temperatures, as the welds would be scanned shortly after being made. |
